Amid the complaints of infrastructural gaps in schools, the School Education Department (SED) has formulated a five-year plan to fill the infrastructural gaps in all the schools in a phased manner.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the five-year plan has been prepared under Samagra Shiksha J&K to address the problems of accommodation crunch in government schools up to middle level.

“Majority of the Government primary and middle schools have accommodation problems and students are deprived of the basic facilities in schools for which we have prepared a five-year plan to address the problem in all these schools,” a top official said.

The dearth of accommodation in government has taken a toll on the academics of the students as the teachers in these schools accommodate students of more than two classes in a single room owing to the non-availability of the adequate classrooms for the students.

“In summers we manage to take classes of the students under open sky but during early winter months the students of more than two to three classes are crammed in one room,” said a teacher from Budgam.

These days, the students of two to three classes are seen crammed in dingy rooms which defeats the sole purpose of imparting education to the students.

As already reported by KNO, the government recently announced that the classwork in schools will continue till December ending. But the ground situation of schools goes contrary to the government claims.

Meanwhile an official while acknowledging the dearth of accommodation in schools said the government has prepared a five-year plan under Samagra Shiksha under which the schools-Primary and Middle schools will be provided with adequate accommodation in a phased manner.

“There is no such problem in high and higher secondary schools as these schools are given accommodation out of UT government funds. But the problem is persistent in primary and middle schools,” the official said.

He said the government has started an exhaustive exercise to identify the schools which sans proper accommodation and all will be equipped with better facilities for students in a gradual process—(KNO)
